The Sanguinistas were born of the dissolution of longtime Austin, TX cowpunk mainstays Stickpony.  Stickpony’s Brit Jones and Lonesome Dave Fisher decided to continue working together and redefine their vision, exploring a more post punk aesthetic.  Jones, tired of the faster/louder format, bent his energies toward mid-tempo songs with mood, melody, and intensity replacing speed and volume.  With the help of Fisher’s by turns atmospheric and earthy guitar stylings the result was a strong set of hooky, melancholic, country tinged pop songs that slip comfortably into several sub-genres of contemporary rock ‘n’ roll.
This new direction required a diverse and adaptable group of like-minded musicians to fill out the line-up.  First aboard was legendary Austin bass player Cindy Toth, who had been a cornerstone of 80’s luminaries The Reivers.  The rhythm section became complete with the addition of drummer Thad Swiderski, who had spent more than a decade behind the kit with Austin’s ubiquitous The Wannabes.  Finally, a rounded delivery and mood amplification was brought into the overall sound with the recruitment of veteran bassist/keyboardist Shannon Rierson, formerly of scene mainstays The Golden Apples.
With all these elements in place The Sanguinistas provide vocal and musical hooks, atmospheric guitar melody lines that suddenly soar over the mix in emotion laden leads, an interlocked rhythm section that becomes a single instrument of its own, and unforgettable lyrics delivered by Jones’ weary, haunted voice at times accompanied by two and three part harmonies.
Internationally respected multi-instrumentalist and producer Ron Flynt, who came to fame in '80s power poppers 20/20, helped The Sanguinistas record a demo in October 2007, the results of which authoritatively captured the band's sound.
While the name Sanguinistas may be new in musical circles, the combined experience of the players totals more than a century and a half.  Catch 'em before they die.
