The Sanguinistas - Turbulent, Melancholy, Go-Go
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Austin, TX
12/14/2007
There exists a musical void which combines the best aspects of melancholic 80s post punk, the darker elements of country music, and
pop hooks to trick you into thinking you're listening to something that's not hopelessly bleak and depressing.
Enter Austin, TX troubadours The Sanguinistas.
The Sanguinistas came about upon the dissolution of Brit Jones and Lonesome Dave Fisher’s country rock/cowpunk
outfit Stickpony (myspace.com/stickpony,
Club De Musique Records). Songwriter Jones decided to move in a decidedly more mid-tempo,
post punk direction without sacrificing country embellishments to add depth and originality. In the pursuit
of this Jones recruited bassist Cindy Toth (of Austin luminaries The Reivers (Capitol Records),
drummer Thad Swiderski (of Austin’s semi-legendary The Wannabes (Dejadisc, Plethorazine),
and keyboardist/bassist Shannon Rierson (Tyrant Swing, The Golden Apples). The
abilities of these veteran players, when combined with Lonesome Dave’s by turns atmospheric and earthy lead guitar melodies
and Jones’ weary, haunted vocals and poetic lyricism, create a very powerful sound indeed.
The 4th annual North vs. South Music Festival (August 16th, 17th, 18th
2007 Lawrence, KS) provided a perfect event to initiate The Sanguinistas into live performance, and they played
to a standing room only crowd at Louise’s Upstairs the evening of Saturday, Aug. 18th. Since
then The Sanguinistas have shared the stage with up and coming avant/country/pop band Snowbyrd (Saustex
Media) at San Antonio’s The Mix Nightclub and Tony Scalzo (of Fastball (Hollywood
Records, Rykodisc) at Austin’s Hole in the Wall, among other local/regional acts on various stages.
In October 2007 The Sanguinistas entered the studio
with legendary multi-instrumentalist/producer Ron
Flynt (of 20/20 (Oglio Records) and cut five demo tracks – four with the
full band and one with Jones and Flynt performing. The strength of these songs is certain to elicit interest
from all directions of the music industry. All five of the tracks can be heard on the “music”
page at www.sanguinistas.com, and the four full band tracks at www.myspace.com/sanguinistas. All interested parties are encouraged to visit these sites and consider the bright future to be had by working with this
impressive band.
